1. Why are they sleeveless?
We make our design for several reasons. It allows unrestricted full arm motion for proper stroke development. Parents who have bought wetsuits with sleeves come to us because their child can't bring their elbow to their ear or the child feels restricted by the shoulder seam. All wetsuits designed for swimming, whether for open ocean or triathlon, are sleeveless for the same reasons. The little extra warmth sleeves would add, is far outweighed by the hassle they create. The sleeveless design allows the straps to be adjustable for years of use. It also makes it easier to get the wetsuit on and off. Sleeves and long legs are warmer, but very difficult to get on and off a child's body, and forget it when the child is wet! Dont be fooled by lycra sleeves that dont add any insulation.

2. How does it work?
We have nearly 15 years of grateful parents comments confirming they work. In the physical world, heat energy always moves from where there is more energy to where there is less energy. Temperature is a measure of the heat energy, so warm body looses heat to cool water. The neoprene provides a layer to insulate or slow the heat loss to the water. It is a wetsuit so water gets in next to the body, and is heated by the body. Normally that water would move away and new cooler water replaces it, and pulls more heat out of the body, cooling the child. If the body loses too much heat, hypothermia (below heat) can set in and cause problems. Drysuits are used in arctic conditions and have sealed gaskets around the ankles, wrists, and face. They dont let in any water, so the body doesnt need to lose heat to any water. They are very expensive, take several people to put on and off, arent usually found in kids sizes, and are definitely not adjustable. EXTRA Credit: Why do your feet feel cold when fridge door is open? Heat leaves your feet, and they feel cold (less heat). Youre warming the fridge!

3. How are they adjustable?
The straps over the shoulder have loop Velcro that attaches to the strips of hook Velcro above the shoulder blades. It can be closed smaller or loosened to only partially overlap, which provides more height in the wetsuit. If you look at the homepage, the infant in an ExSmall with diaper flap, is being held by his mom, and you can see the straps on the back. ALL SIZES of Warm Belly Wetsuits have the same shoulder closure on top. The 6mos, 12mos, and ExSmall all have a diaper flap on the bottom, whereas the small, medium and both larges all have the short legs style.

4. What if my child is between sizes?
A child's clothing size is a good indicator for the best fit in a Warm Belly Wetsuit. If they are already in a couple categories of the next size up, it is better to go with the larger size. If they have been wearing the size for a while, it will still fit until the upper values of the categories, but the fit would be tight to start at the upper end of the categories. The adjustable size gives flexibility to height sizing, and you can check the wetsuit dimensions on the size chart. You can always call to assure the best fit and longest usefulness of your Warm Belly Wetsuit purchase, and we do make special custom cuts for $15 extra.

5. Does it still work if it is loose?
Yes it will still be warmer than no wetsuit. A wetsuit does not need to be super tight to work. Anything restricting the water movement around the body and not pulling heat from the skin will keep you warmer.

6. How thick is the neoprene?
Our neoprene is 2mm or about 1/8th inch thick.

7. Do you make ones with thicker neoprene?
No, we found it too stiff and kids become too corky in the water. Warm Belly Wetsuits are used by swim schools and it is important that kids dont get a false sense of floating and the 2 mm is a good balance between warmth, flexibility, and just a touch of buoyancy. Kids can learn proper swim/float techniques that will work when they are not wearing a wetsuit.

8. Does the wetsuit have UV protecting qualities?
Yes, the neoprene is opaque. It lets no sun through to the skin that it covers. They are designed to provide warmth, but they block UVA and UVB. UPF50+ is the highest rating given to sun clothing fabrics. Neoprene is not an open fabric. It is closed cell material, so no sun gets through. A garment with a UPF of 50 only allows 1/50th of the UV radiation falling on the surface of the garment to pass through it. In other words, it blocks 49/50ths or 98% of the UV radiation. If a fabric lets through less than 1/100th it blocks 99% but still the fabric is given a UPF 50+. What is the UPF if 50/50ths or 100% is blocked? What if 1/zeroth gets through?
Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) is a measure of the protection provided by clothing fabrics. Compares amount of UV let through fabric. Max UPF=50
Sun protection factor (SPF) is a measure of the protection provided by sunscreens. Compares amount of time in the sun. Max SPF=65
Eye protection factor (EPF) is a measure of the protection provided by sunglasses and other eyewear.

9. What are the washing instructions if it gets dirty?
Most of the time a good rinse and drip dry is adequate to get the pool chemicals off the nylon. If the wetsuit is soiled, use either, a gentle cycle, with mild soaps and no fast spinning, or you can wash by hand, kneading itlike bread doughin a sink with mild soap.

10. Can I use an extractor or spinner at the gym?
Absolutely not! The danger is the extractor/spinner tends to rip up the neoprene, as the wetsuit does not stay squished down in the bottom as it spins. The neoprene pops up often and can be grinded in the lid making a burn hole in the wetsuit. The neoprene is a closed cell material and does not soak up water anyway, and the nylon covering with the color dries quickly in air.

11. Can I do any sewing/repairing on the neoprene?
We guarantee against manufacture defects, so call if it is from that. It is very difficult to sew two of the 2mm sheets together on a home sewing machine because of the neoprenes thickness. Also, because it is not a fabric, the neoprene tends to be cut by a home machine that is perforating the rubber like material. It is not looping around threads in a fabric. A random tear somewhere in the middle of the suit can be glued together. There is a product called AQUASEAL (currently about $6-7) and available in sporting goods stores. It is a urethane glue (almost works like clear caulking) and it seals the sides together. It is flexible and strong, but tricky to make a cosmetic fix look good. Duct tape works wonders. Despite how it might look, the wetsuit will still insulate to keep kids warm.

12. How do I return a wetsuit?
First, call and get a RAN (Return Authorization Number). You must have a RAN and be entered in our return journal with that RAN. Only wetsuits that havent been in the water can be returned. Carefully follow the folding instructions below. WETSUITS FOLDED TOO MANY TIMES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.

15. What is the return/exchange policy?
All Warm Belly Wetsuits carry a 100% money back guarantee against manufacture defects and will be replaced or refunded if defective. If there is a size or color problem (ie. favorite color changed today and is no longer purple), the wetsuit can be exchanged or returned, as long as it has not been in the water and is in original condition. YOU MUST CONTACT US FIRST AND GET A RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER (RAN). WITHOUT IT YOUR PACKAGE WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER. On returns, the full price of the wetsuit will be credited to your account, but not the shipping costs. On exchanges, send a check for $5.00 to cover shipping the new wetsuit or it can be billed to your original account. YOU MUST CONTACT US BEFORE INITIATING A REFUND OR EXCHANGE. Call or email us prior to returning or exchanging so we will be able to handle your request more effectively. Wetsuits sent incorrectly (e.g. no RAN or folded too much) will not be accepted, will be returned to sender, and will not be refunded. Please contact us first. See FAQ #12 for folding instructions.

16. Do you do special cuts or modifications?
Yes, special cuts and modifications can be made on any sizes up to an extra large (about a 12 yr old). Look at the sizing chart and get your child's measurements A-E. Please send them to info@warmbelly.com with your color choice and information about weight, height, and current clothing sizes. We will call or email to make sure we have them correct. It will add $20 to the cost of the wetsuit and any special cut wetsuit because of its special character is non-refundable.
